One week of being a dad has passed! One week of
dirty diapers, late night cries, and snuggles. Looking back on it, I
wouldn’t trade a moment…well maybe that one rude doctor but that’s
another story all together…for the world! Here’s a look back at how you
came into the world

I
was supposed to meet your momma at the hospital for her to get some
pre-baby things done. The plan was to give her some medicine the night
before and, first thing the next morning, your mom was going to get
prepped for having you.
So
there I was wandering the halls of the hospital with my suitcase
looking for your momma. She wasn’t there. Where was she you may ask?
Well, my dear, you were quite the dancer while in your mom’s tummy
before you were born. You were breached (head facing the wrong way)
nearly the entire time until you finally turned the right
way near the end. Then, quite unexpectedly, you flipped around again. No
baby prep today! You decided you didn’t want to mess up your pretty
little head during a natural birth and decided to meet us through a
C-Section.
We
weren’t too upset though! After all, we were getting you! Your “DeDe”
took us out to dinner and we almost only talked about meeting you! It
was nice to relax and to have a set schedule of when we’d officially be
parents for the first time. Your mom even wanted to drive herself to the
hospital!
Thursday, July 2, 2015 (Your Birthday)
Just so you know, I tried my best for you to have a July 4th
birthday! I really did (ask your momma if you don’t believe me)!
However, you came to us today and I’m glad I didn’t have to wait two
more days before I met you!
It
was wild driving to the hospital knowing we were just a mere few hours
before meeting you. We got in just fine, relaxed, and waited what seemed
like FOREVER. After a few hours, they prepped your mom and out she
went. While they were getting your mom ready, I was quite anxious! I
must have paced all around that hospital floor! Your grandparents and
great grandparents thought I was quite funny too! It’s ironic because,
just like that hospital floor, I was anxiously pacing around another
floor just before I married your mom, and guess what? Your grandparents
and great grandparents laughed at me then too!
I
finally went in later and got to be with your mom as we waited for you
to come. She was pretty cute I must say! I’ll never forget when she
looked up to me, smiled, and then asked if I could scratch her nose (she
couldn’t move due the medicine they gave her). I scratched her nose and
we just talked and waited until you got closer and closer to coming. It
was in those last moments I began to realize just how incredible your
mom has been throughout this journey of having you. Whenever things were
tough, she never lost her smile because she was so happy that she was
going to be your momma. No swollen feet could ever bring her down from
that high!
In just a
few minutes, you made your arrival! How did you arrive? By mooning your
dad! Yup! You came out legs first with your lil’ booty in the air! I
don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to be mooned in all my life. Shortly
after, I once again was pacing around another floor between you and
your momma! I remember how I couldn’t help but keep telling her just how
beautiful you were. I tried my best to describe your face, eyes, and
beautiful features but, when they finally gave you to your mom, I
realized I failed. She saw…just as I did…how beautiful you are. No words
could ever describe the way I saw your mom’s eyes in seeing you for the
first time.
It’s
a strange thing becoming a parent. You think you’ll be ready whenever
your baby is born but, until you go through it, you can’t be. You can
never really know how quickly you fall in love with your child until you
see them. In that one moment, you look down and realize you would do
anything for them. Your heart that you thought was full opens up a whole
other section and a deep sense of pride/happiness/love fills your whole
body.
I
was so happy that I didn’t even cry! I thought for sure I would lose it
when I saw you but I just
couldn’t help but smile/giggle! I was smiling
away until they handed you back to me before they wheeled your mom back
to the room. I nervously held you again, looked down at my beautiful
daughter, and then you reached out with your little hand and grabbed my
finger. You remember those tears I thought I was going to have when you
born? Well they found their way to my face after that!
The
rest of the day was spent passing you around from loved one to loved
one. Each and every person…whether on the phone or in
person…couldn’t have been happier for us.
So
that’s your story, baby girl! That’s how you made us a family! Now that
you’re here, expect more goofy stories of my feeble attempts at being
the best dad I can be!
I sure do love you, Lyra Jane Bennetch!
p.s. being your dad is awesome!
Ok, your Diva is puddle of goo reading all about you. We are so proud of you and are anxious to hold you and cuddle with you and share secrets. Your Dad is my baby and it is a wonderful moment being able to watch your baby hold his baby. God has blessed us with being able to see this moment.
