In the Beginning there was a baby girl...

The Story Behind This Blog
The idea behind this blog came from a thought I had years ago. I wondered, if time travel was possible, what it would be like to hang out with my father at the same age I was currently (the answer, of course, being he probably wouldn’t like me). It is with that thought I decided to start writing you this blog. This is your way you can see what your dad was like well before you remember him. Hopefully, the dad you have now is as dashing as the young one writing you now. But, before we begin my sweet children, if time travel is possible in the future and you wish to see me in the past, just remember to skip my 20’s. Nothing good for you to see there! =)

 Boy Meets Girl
If by now you haven’t realized that your mother is by far my better half, then you may have ended up with my brain. I apologize about that. Before your mom, I was a guy with no story and no direction. I moved from city to city, went from school to school, and got lost more times than I’d like to admit along the way. You will probably have no idea what I speak of because I’m sure you’re all about to win a Nobel Peace Prize and take care of your sweet, loving, wonderful father and mother!
I am unsure when you will ask me the question that everyone wonders; “How do you know they’re the ONE?!” Of course, this will be long after you finished college and, if you’re a daughter of mine, the one you’ve chosen will have gone through my extensive background checks. That being said, I will answer your question with an explanation of how I knew your mother was the one for me.

You will know when you’ve found the love of your life when you feel like you’re home when they’re around. That’s how I knew your mother was it for me. I had bounced around cities, apartments, relationships, etc… but I knew, from the very first time I met her, I was finally home.

The Start of Our Family
I loved NYC, your mom loved NYC, but we loved you most. We decided to move to Texas to have you all in our lives, and it was the best decision we’ve ever made. You are our treasure. I’ll never forget the night we found out that we were going to be parents. As you well know by now, your dad is a Halloween fan so it makes perfect sense that your sister would make her first appearance before the start of our party. We both stood shocked and happy when we knew she was set to arrive. Needless to say, I already started deciding how I was going to dress you up for your first Halloween next year. Boy or Girl? I was ready!

Ultrasound and Gender Reveal Party
After you’re all done winning your Nobel prizes and have met the love of your lives, you will get to experience a moment like none other…hearing your baby’s heartbeat. I may have been too shocked to cry when I found out I was going to be a father, but I made up for it at the ultrasound! I even surprised your mother the second time we saw your sister! She had no idea I would be able to make it, due to work, but I wasn’t going to miss it for the world! Your sister, as the rest of you will be, was the cutest black and white wiggly thing I’d ever seen.

The Gender Reveal party came shortly after we saw your sister for the first time. I simply “knew” we were having a boy, and your mother “knew” we were having a girl. As you have probably seen countless number of times growing up, your mother, as always, is right and your father is wrong. I, you see, was shocked. A good shocked, of course, but definitely shocked!

My Sweet Girl
Oh how I love you my sweet, little, “guinea pig.” As your Aunt Becky or your cousin Oscar will tell you, being the first isn’t the easiest of jobs. You may get more pictures (although I’ve sworn to take tons of ALL our Bennetch Babies) than your siblings, but you also have to endure me learning to be a father. I am sorry if I let you down. I will always try to be a good example of a Godly man and treat your mother, you, and any future siblings with all the strings that come along with it. Thank you for all the future gray hairs you’ll give me, all the laughs, hugs and kisses, and unknown portals of love that you’ll show me.

So expect to hear more from me soon as we start this journey together Lil’ Miss! Know that your dad can’t wait to finally meet you! I may not have held you yet, but you already own my heart!

P.S. Being your dad is awesome!

  1. As your mother I am deeply moved that you want to document the birth of your children and let them know your thoughts, plans, prayers and stories.
